Nick Whiting
Head Coach
Nick Whiting was named head women's soccer coach at HCU in April of 2024.
Whiting joined the Huskies after two seasons as the associate head coach at Western Carolina, helping lead the Catamounts to both the Southern Conference regular season and tournament championships and a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2023. That season, WCU won the regular season outright with a 7-2 record, the program's first-ever outright SoCon title, and boasted a top 25 scoring offense and a top 25 scoring defense.
Whiting helped guide the Catamounts to a top 70 RPI in 2023, the highest in program history, and also coached the SoCon Player of the Year, Isabella DeMarco. Both seasons he was at WCU, the program ranked in the top 10 in Division I in team GPA.
Prior to his stint at WCU, Whiting spent six seasons at Southland Conference member McNeese and served as the program's associate head coach for four of those. In his final season with the Cowgirls, he helped guide McNeese to a 13-5-2 overall record with a 9-2-1 mark in SLC play. During his time in Lake Charles, he coached players to SLC Player of the Year, Forward of the Year and Defender of the Year honors.
Before his years at McNeese, Whiting coached one season as an assistant at Louisiana, reaching the Sun Belt Conference Tournament with an 8-10-2 record. Before that, he was the head coach at Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C. for three seasons, leading the Bobcats to a pair of Conference Carolinas regular season titles and a 29-23-4 record. He spent two seasons as an assistant at Lees-McRae before taking over the head job.
Whiting also spent a year as an assistant at Catawba College after a season as a graduate assistant at WCU in 2008. He graduated from the University of West Florida in 2007 with a bachelor of arts in communication arts/public relations and later earned an M.S. in health and human performance from McNeese in 2021.
Whiting takes over an HCU program that went 7-11 last season with a 4-6 mark in SLC play under Chris Dodd. The Huskies reached the semifinals of the SLC tournament thanks to an upset win over No. 2 seed Texas A&M-Commerce on day one of the tournament.
Quentin Boric
Assistant Coach
Quentin Boric was named assistant women's soccer coach at HCU in June of 2024.
Boric joined the Huskies after four seasons as the assistant coach at the University of the Cumberlands, helping lead the Patriots to their first National Championship in 2023. That season, the Patriots won the Mid-south Conference regular season with a 5-0-1 record and went undefeated through the entire regular season with a 13-0-3 record.
While finishing the year as National Champions, Boric also helped guide the Patriots to the #1 ranking in the MRPI in 2023, beating the previous season where they finished at #2.
Boric led the defensive unit and goalkeepers during their historic tournament run to one goal against in the five matches played. During the 2023 tournament the Patriots stifling defense put up 447 consecutive minutes of tournament soccer before conceding a goal. During the championship match junior Georgia Martell made 19 saves and senior Laura Vogt made two additional stops during penalty kicks to guide the Patriots to victory.
Prior to capturing the program's first national championship, Boric has been instrumental in the program's growth and success. Since Boric arrived in Williamsburg in 2020, he has guided the Patriots to one Mid-South tournament championship, two Mid-South regular season championships, and four straight appearances at the NAIA Final Site. During those years the Patriots achieved two Elite Eight, one Final Four, and one National Championship. Boric also helped the Pat's defensive unit break the record for shutouts with 15 in 2021. When Boric arrived in 2020 the Patriot's were ranked 16th, as he departs the program sits at the number one spot in the NAIA rankings.
Over 4 seasons Boric has coached over 20 All-conference selections and 10 All-American selections. Boric currently holds a Master in Health and Human Performance and a USSF C coaching license.
Howard Sturgeon
Assistant Coach
Howard Sturgeon joined the HCU women’s soccer program in August of 2023. Sturgeon was part of the Huskies' coaching staff that led team to a 7-11 overall record, 4-6 in Southland Conference play, and a run to the SLC Tournament semifinals.
Prior to joining HCU, Sturgeon was named Interim Head Women's Soccer Coach at Briar Cliff University for the Spring 2023 season and was integral in the day to day running of the program.
Sturgeon spent two seasons as the assistant coach at Briar Cliff University. He helped guide the Charger's women's soccer team to its first GPAC Tournament Championship in 2021, as well as helping lead the program to an undefeated GPAC Regular Season in 2022 with a 10-0-2 record. During Sturgeon's time with the Chargers, the program made back-to-back appearances at the NAIA National Tournament. The team never dropped outside of the NAIA Coaches National Rankings, amassing an overall record of 28-6-5 as assistant coach.
As a player, Sturgeon was an A.I.I All-Conference selection in 2017 at Waldorf University. Waldorf won its first A.I.I. Conference Championship and competed at the 2017 NAIA National Tournament for the first time in program history during his first season as a Warrior, earning all-conference honors.
Sturgeon holds a double Master’s in Business and HR Management, as well as a double bachelor’s in Business and Sport Management, from Waldorf University.
Sturgeon holds a USSF C License and is currently. Additionally he holds an FA Level 2 Coaching license from the United Kingdom.
